8th International Conference on Plasmodium vivax Research 2022 (ICPvR)

The 8th International Conference on Plasmodium vivax Research 2022 (ICPvR) was held as a 4-day online event in April. This event brought the P. vivax research community together for the first time in an online conference and was attended by Simon, Angela and Mimi and a number of the group’s collaborators. Keynote talks covered topics including biological models used for P. vivax research in Thailand, the increasing burden of P. vivax in Africa and immunity to Duffy-binding protein in endemic populations in Brazil.

Mimi gave a talk on ‘PvDBPII vaccine efficacy testing by controlled Human Malaria Infection in UK adults’ in the session chaired by Chetan Chitnis and James McCarthy entitled ‘Towards vaccine development’. Other talks in this session were on a mouse model to test the effectiveness of anti-CSP antibodies in preventing hypnozoite formation, development of live P. vivax sporozoites by Sanaria and presentation of P. vivax antigens to CD8+ T cells. A summary of the conference talks can be found through this link.
