10th Anniversary Symposium of the Vaccine Formulation Institute (VFI)

On 27th April 2023, Simon attended the 10th Anniversary Symposium of the Vaccine Formulation Institute (VFI) in Geneva, Switzerland, entitled “Adjuvants & Formulations for the Future”.

VFI, co-directed by Nicolas Collin and Patrice Dubois, began as the Vaccine Formulation Laboratory (VFL) initially at the University of Lausanne in 2010, supported by the World Health Organisation. After its externalisation from the University, VFI established itself as an independent, not-for-profit company in Switzerland. VFI’s mission is to provide adjuvants, research on adjuvants, preclinical development of adjuvanted vaccines, technology transfer and training, to the entire vaccine community, with a focus to low- and middle-income countries. VFI’s team now works across several sites including two state-of-the art laboratories in Geneva and Lausanne, Switzerland.

Simon co-moderated the final session of the Symposium entitled “The future of adjuvants for Global Health”, and participated in a round table discussion, along with other leading figures from the field of vaccines for global health, chaired by Dr Marie-Paule Kieny.

VFI and the Draper Lab continue to collaborate on the development of new malaria vaccines. We congratulate VFI on reaching this milestone and wish them every success for the next decade of their ground-breaking and important research as they strive to finally solve the “adjuvant problem” and makeopen-access vaccine adjuvants for Global Health.
