20th Protein Island Matsuyama International Symposium (PIM2022), Matsuyama, Ehime, Japan

In mid-September 2022 Simon was an invited speaker at the 20th Protein Island Matsuyama International Symposium (PIM2022), held in Matsuyama, Ehime, Japan.

PIM2022 is organised by Ehime University in conjunction with Ehime Prefecture, the City of Matsuyama, the Matsuyama Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as Ehime Association of Corporate Executives. PIM symposia began in 2003 with a goal of disseminating the 21st century cell-free protein synthesis innovative knowledge and technology. This year’s symposium focussed on investigation of protein-protein interactions using protein array technology. Simon’s talk, entitled “Advances in Protein-Based Vaccines for Blood-Stage Malaria” explored the role of blocking essential host-parasite protein interactions in guiding the design of next-generation malaria vaccines.

Alongside the PIM2022 Symposium, Simon was invited to eat at numerous local Japanese restaurants and was treated to a guided tour of Matsuyama – a fascinating and beautiful city. He is extremely grateful to Prof Tatsuya Sawasaki (Director of PROS, Ehime University), Prof Richard Culleton and Prof Taka Tsuboi for their warm and generous hospitality during his visit.
