In November 2024 Simon, Angela, Jo, Sarah, Kirsty, Fran, Dimitra and Mimi attended the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) held in New Orleans, USA. This meeting is the premier international forum for the exchange of scientific advances in tropical medicine, hygiene and global health, and draws tropical medicine and global health professionals representing academia, foundations, government, not for profit organisations, non-governmental organisations, the private sector, military and private practice. World-class research findings, clinical updates and topical discussions about the hot-button global issues from the world’s brightest scientific experts and thought leaders are presented over five days.
Dr Magloire Natama, from our collaborating partner at the Clinical Research Unit of Nanoro at the Institut de Recherche en Sciences de la Santé (IRSS) in Burkina Faso, gave a well-received oral presentation on the group’s recent VAC091 clinical trial, entitled “RH5.1/Matrix-M: Efficacy of a standalone blood-stage vaccine against clinical P. falciparum malaria in 5-17 month old children; a Phase 2b randomised trial in Burkina Faso”.
Sarah, Jo, Dimitra and Mimi also presented posters highlighting recent work from the group on the VAC091 and VAC089 clinical trials of the RH5.1 and R78C / Matrix-M vaccines for blood-stage P. falciparum, as well as analysis of human anti-PvDBP_RII mAbs for P. vivax malaria.
It was fantastic to catch-up with so many friends, collaborators and colleagues from around the world, and also experience New Orleans’ legendary beignets, jazz and nightlife!
