From the 26th - 30th of May Millie attended the Antibodies and Complement Conference in Catania, Sicily. Whilst only in its 4th year, the conference draws experts in antibodies and complement from around the world, facilitating useful discussions on advancements in the field. Topics ranged from germinal centers and antibody development, to AI and antibody engineering.
Millie’s work focuses on using single cell RNA sequencing of B cells to analyse responses to malaria vaccination and challenge, subsequently using these sequences to produce potent neutralising anti-malarial antibodies. She gave a flash-talk on the first day of the conference, outlining her work developing a high-throughput multiplexed screen for the detection of antigen-specific B cells following malaria vaccination/challenge. She also presented her poster on the same topic during the conference, allowing plenty of opportunities for networking and building collaborations.
In the free afternoon, Millie explored the beautiful city of Catania, and visited the iconic mount Etna, just five days before a dramatic eruption...!
