In May 2025 Simon, Barney, Anna and Cassie attended the BioMalPar XXI Conference on the Biology and Pathology of the Malaria Parasite held in EMBL Heidelberg, Germany. Meeting for the 21st time, BioMalPar 2025 focussed on strengthening our global malaria research community by fostering new partnerships and collaborations. It provided an invaluable platform for scientists worldwide to convene, share critical insights, and explore cutting-edge technologies.
Topics covered included Epidemiology of malaria in endemic countries; Vaccines and immunity; Mosquito vectors and transmission; Molecular and cellular biology of the parasite; and Drug targets and resistance.
Simon was an invited speaker and gave a presentation entitled “Advances in vaccines for blood-stage malaria”. Barney and Anna both presented posters on their latest advances.
It was fantastic to catch-up with so many friends, collaborators and colleagues from around the world, and also get to visit the beautiful centre of Heidelberg!
